Cataract surgery is safer, faster, and better than ever. The surgery is performed by Dr. Liva at Saddle River Valley Surgical Center under topical anesthesia with intravenous sedation administered by a board certified anesthesiologist . The use of eyedrops to numb the eye avoids the additional risks inherent in using needle injections around the eye. Dr. Liva's technique uses gem quality diamond blades to create better incisions than less sharp metal blades used by most surgeons. A Leica microscope provides superb optics to give Dr.Liva the excellent visualization he needsto perform the operation more safely and avoid complications. A state-of-the-art phacoemulsification machine, the Alcon Infinity, offersmicrocoaxial phaco enabling removal of the cataract through tiny incisions. The highest quality intraocular lenses are implanted which can correct not only the clouding of the vision from the cataract but also other preexisting conditions such as myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism and presbyopia. Dr. Liva has over 25 years of experience treating glaucoma. Liva Eye Center has always invested in the most high-tech equipment available to diagnose and treat glaucoma. Lately we have made several investments. We have the latest optic nerve imaging technology with the addition of the Cirrus OCT and the Kowa Fundus Camera. Our visual field analyzer has been upgraded to be networkable so that all glaucoam tests reside on a computer server for easy access for comparison.
